Blue.
Bleu.
Everywhere, bleu…
Blue. It was the color of choice in France, worn by the likes of kings and high-ranking soldiers to peasants and everyone in-between. It was used as a form of currency and worth its weight in gold. Made from woad, a plant native to Southern France, it put the Occitanie region on the map and made a lot of people very wealthy. And while its primary use was related to textiles, the residuals from the dye vats could be used to make paint, and so that gorgeous blue was painted on everything from shutters and doors to wagons.
With the color all around you, it begins to feel a bit like a reflection of the brilliant Mediterranean sky up above.
