The Lost Art of Garment Grooming and Mending in the Modern Age

The Sustainable Garment was honored to present the following program “The Lost Art of Garment Grooming and Mending in the Modern Age” in the Chace Center 3rd Floor Gallery of the RISD Museum, in conjunction with the exhibit Repair and Design Futures, to a continual rotation of curious visitors:

Artist Reed McLaren demonstrates seldom-practiced principles of caring for and preserving clothing. Various practices, including combing, hand-washing, and blocking a sweater, caring for a silk blouse, along with brushing and restoring the nap of a coat, speak to garment construction, longevity, and perceptions of value.
