Proper Care for Athleisure and Active Wear

Our specialized yoga pants and leggings require special attention.

We expect a lot out of these pieces. They should be able to wick away moisture and let our skin breathe. They should be stretchy, but never stretched out. For the garment to do all of this it is important that we care for them with these special properties in mind.

Active wear is constructed with multiple layers of fabric that are designed to push moisture through and facilitate evaporation as well as maintain good ventilation, essentially mimicking how our bodies work. It is important to steer clear of fabric softeners, whether in liquid form in the wash, or the non-liquid form of dryer sheets, as softeners can clog up the pores of the fabric and prevent moisture-wicking and ventilation. In addition, fibers that shed in the wash from other garments, such as cotton or fleece, can also get captured in the garment over time, so it is best to wash these items separately.

When it comes to the signature stretch, we want them to move with us but also retain their shape. The elastic nature of these garments come from synthetic, plastic-based fabrics such as spandex and nylon which are temperature sensitive. Heat can cause these fabrics to break down and the garment can suffer pilling and loss of shape. If we opt for cold water and keep them out of the dryer, or at least dry on the lowest setting possible, we can keep these pieces looking and performing like new.
